Some of the old-timers at Austin Pottery Studio & Gallery remember a fellow Potter named Debi Ballard. She passed away a few years back on March 4, 2014. Many of us were thrown for loop in coping with this unexpected loss. In an effort to deal with our grief, Kit Adams, owner of the former Clayways studio, donated 3 ceramic platters to decorate and offer to Debi's three Sons, in Debi's memory. This year a team of merry potters, Patty Creamer, Deb Dixon and Sherri Hammack, finished out the platters that contained the names of many of Debi's family and friends. Those individuals had signed their names at the three memorial services that celebrated her life: one service for her pottery friends, another for her work friends, and the back-yard celebration with a mix of her family and friends. On Mother's Day, the platters were finally ready to go to their intended homes with Debi's three sons: Christopher, Matthew and Ben Glover. The platters were recently presented to Ben to distribute to his other two brothers. Debi was devoted to her family, a skilled potter, a steadfast leader at the Austin Empty Bowl annual event, as well as community organizer through her work at the state health and human services. She will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

T-shirts and pottery tools available at Austin Pottery
Something catch your eye?! Come on in to the gallery and we'd be happy to help you find that perfect gift, tool or t-shirt for that someone special (even if it's you)!
Did you know that we've started reclaiming clay?! Yep! AP is now the proud owner of a shinny new pug machine that will help us streamline this process. And not only is this pugger a super handy addition to our studio, it's pretty, y'all.
We're testing out the clay and hope to have it available for purchase (at a spiffy reduced rate) soon!
(That's suppose to read like a chorus of angels. Not someone screaming. BTW.)
Why? Because this happened:
♥ AP VOLUNTEERS ♥
We're so so thankful to all of the volunteers who came out and contributed to the massive undertaking of this project! Power-washing, taping, painting, custom signs AND some new lighting. A LOT went into this, y'all! And this was just for the front of the building. Next up, we'll focus on the sides; maybe even add a little mural or something fun and oh-so-Austin.
We're also going to repaint the parking spot lines so that we can park 5 cars up front as efficiently as possible.
HUGE thanks to everyone who came out to throw bowls at our first Bowl-A-Thon supporting the Austin Empty Bowl Project! We're super excited to be sponsoring such a great cause, and we're hopeful that we can rally our ATXP community together to make as many bowls as possible for this year's event!
If you missed out, don't worry. We'll have 2-3 more events in the coming months! Austin Pottery will provide the clay, glazes, and firings, so that all resident potters and students have to do is simply donate their time to make and decorate their bowls!
What did YOU do this 4th of July?!!
The Austin Pottery team got together and cooked hotdogs over the kiln flames—it was pretty much the fastest hotdog service I've ever seen. No baseball game will ever compare, now.
We also may have maybe done a bit of a studio shuffle. Hand builders AND wheel throwers can now unite! We hope that the new open flow of the studio layout will enable students to see all aspects of this incredible art form that we all love so much. And maybe, just maybe, there will be some crossover!
Goodbye Dark Side!
Check out the before and after photos below.
Oh, and you can check out our Instagram feed if you want to see some hotdog clips :D
We're excited to announce that registration has officially opened for the July/August session! Our eight week classes tend to fill up FAST with returning students, so please be sure to sign up soon.
View our class schedule to see new class offerings—we've been busy adding some fun options. Whether it's wheel, hand-building, or a little bit of both, we hope you find the perfect class for you.
Give us a call when you're ready to register!

We are thrilled to announce that Austin Pottery Studio & Gallery has officially opened in the recently closed Clayways location at 5442 Burnet Road. Austin Pottery offers classes, studio rental space, as well as a curated gallery storefront.
This clay community that was established over the past two decades is incredibly special and dear to many. For a lot of us, this community is part of our family. The Austin Pottery team is grateful to be able to continue a clay studio operation for this community, and excited to offer new opportunities in clay!
