CANED HANDLES WITH DEB DIXON

9/22 (1:30 - 4p)

Learn how to add a caned handle to a pot to enhance the beauty of it and bring added interest by incorporating a different material into your clay work!

Students will learn how to create a basic caned handle for finished glazed pots that they will bring to the workshop. Caning materials sufficient for handles on 2 medium size pots with 2 attachment areas will be provided.  A suitably sized pot is a wine chiller/caddy or a bowl about 8-9 inches in diameter. The area for attaching the caned handle may be additional lugs added to the pot (such as for a teapot) or hole that has been punched through the pot .  Hole punches 1/2 inch or 7/8 inch are recommended.  Smaller than 1/2 inch will be difficult to work with. A basic cylinder-style pot will be available for students who wish to take the workshop but do not have a finished pot to bring with them.

General tips and information about working with the reed materials will also be covered.
